Our business concept

‘The Guild of Cornish Celebrants’

The Guild of Cornish Celebrants has been set up by Denise and Nicola to promote quality celebratory ceremonies which fully reflect the wishes and beliefs of the couples and families we work with. The aim of The Guild is to give an assurance of excellence – we are passionate about providing bespoke and unique ceremonies for any occasion. The hallmarks of a mediaeval ‘Guild’ were their professional ability and demonstrated accomplishment; we are redefining the ‘Guild’ concept for the 21st century, bringing a traditional quality standard to a new contemporary offering, ensuring ceremonies from the Guild always meet or exceed our clients’ expectations.

We have chosen to use ‘Cornish Celebrants’ as our trading title under the umbrella organisation of ‘The Guild of Cornish Celebrants’ to allow not only our own initial enterprise, but the wider concept of the Guild to flourish.

Nicola and Denise have both worked for the Registration Service in Cornwall for a total of almost 30 years between them, dealing with key events and emotional milestones in life’s journey, which gives them an empathetic outlook and ability to adapt to any circumstances as they unfold.

We have written delivered all types of ceremonies between us, weddings, civil partnerships, naming and renewal ceremonies, and had wonderful feedback from all our couples and families – your ceremony is guaranteed to be a fabulous experience.

Nicola Le Couteur Bisson

I am based near St Columb Major and have strong family links with the far west of Cornwall so am happy to cover the whole of our beautiful county. I was involved with the Cornwall Registration Service for nearly 19 years as the Superintendent Registrar of the Bodmin District and latterly as the Registration Manager for the East of the county, I was also the Training Officer for Cornwall. I have been married for 25 years to my husband Paul and we have 2 children, 3 dogs, 1 cat, a pony and have just been joined by 2 bantams!

I love my job – it is a real joy to talk to couples and families and work with them, turning their ideas for their venue and ceremony into a reality for them. Denise and I share a similar work ethic and vision for our business and we have a lot of fun! It is a source of real satisfaction that in such a short time we have gained recognition and support from the wedding industry for our business.

Denise Whitehair

I am based near Liskeard and although not born in Cornwall, I have lived here for over 42 years so feel I am an honorary Cornish woman. I met my husband at the tender age of 19 through the amazing marriage bureau, Young Farmers and we have now been married for over 22 years! I have a son and a chocolate working cocker spaniel called Fern. I worked for the Cornwall Registration Service for 10 years, and enjoyed every moment. I loved my job talking with couples in addition to registering births and deaths and dealing with the legal preliminaries to marriages and civil partnerships. I am delighted that I can use my skills being part of The Guild of Cornish Celebrants with Nicola and enjoy every moment of being able to offer choice and flexibility to our couples and families to ensure a truly unique and memorable ceremony.

Always keen for a celebration, I was Superintendent Registrar with the Registration Service for 10 years before working independently. I have witnessed an ever changing social landscape as couples and families exercise their individual freedom of choice in choosing settings, and celebrants for their special moment in life’s milestone events. I use a diverse range of skills to deliver a ceremony to suit you.

Colleen

Before moving to Cornwall, I was a Registration Officer in Hampshire for eight years conducting a wide variety of ceremonies. I always believed I had my dream job and it is wonderful to now be part of a team of successful and enthusiastic celebrants. It is such an honour and privilege to meet a couple, assist in planning their ceremony and know that I have helped to make it truly memorable.

Grace

I trained as a solicitor and then decided to come down to live in Cornwall. I worked within the Registration Service for 3 years mainly undertaking weddings and civil partnerships and managing the Registration Office. I am delighted to have become an Affiliated Celebrant so that I can continue to use the skills I gained and loved to use to help couples and families enjoy a bespoke ceremony with Cornish Celebrants.
